I like ams . I liked it better when it was a true oval and saw many
Great races there in the 90s including the 92 hooters that. Was one of the sports
Greatest races ever.
But its still a great track .still fast .and now will only host one race a year.

Wish I was there right now.
Anybody tonight but the 48 will suit me.

One of the more enjoyable races to watch. Glad to see Boris finally win one. Edged Papis by inches. I was rooting for Ambrose but hard luck got him again. Then Edwards had it covered till he broke. You had to know Robbie Gordon was going to run out of gas on the last lap.
Great last lap.

I would sure love to see Smoke win the Championship this year. It seems like all those points accumulated during the year before the chase are a waste after first place is wrapped up, with way to much emphasis on only wins.
The power of racing series announcers

This is not about a Nascar driver but about any racing series, and has to do with the unfair, almost unethical power of all announcers. An example that this forum won’t like, but hey, nobody home at the Indy forum: This weekend’s Indy Car Mid Ohio race was the first time the announcers have talked much at all about 21 year old female rookie phenom Simona DeSilvestro from Switzerland. Once again she qualified great, 6th and ran in the top 5 or 6 all day, and with 5 laps to go fell to 8th place, and this with a one-car, low-budget team, while the golden girl mid-pack Danica in a top car finished 22nd, after starting 22nd and running 19th to 23rd all day, in a field of 24 cars. Finally this day the announcers did talk about DeSilvestro. They absolutely could not delay talking about her anymore. The media must have been questioning the announcers about this. You’ve got this young female talent and you don’t mention her!!?
She has out-qualified Patrick in all races except the few ovals they race on, tracks where she does not have the equipment to run fast, where horsepower and money are king. Early in the year in a road race in Brazil (think it was Brazil), she actually led 4 or 5 laps, holding back the Penske, Andretti and Gannassi cars, running 4th to 6th most of the day and the refusal of the announcers to talk about this young rookie girl was disgusting. By listening to these announcers, you’d have no idea if Simona was a male or female driver. The announcers certainly didn’t tell you. Then with about 8 or 9 laps left, her motor went and her day was over, and still not a word from the announcers about what happened to her. She was not on the track? Where did she go? I had to find out on the internet the next day. I thought what the hell is going on here? It continued during the year, DeSilvestro running in front of Patrick, but yet they only talked about Patrick—Danica this Danica that Danica pre-race interview, Danica bitching about the car as usual post race interview.
It finally struck me. The series, including the paid mouthpieces in the booth, have a lot invested in Patrick and would like nothing more than see this young Swiss girl race badly and disappear. Patrick IS the series, though she has sucked all year, except for her very very fortunate 7th place finish at Indy, after running midpack or worse all day.
If not for Patrick, the 21 year-old Swiss Miss would be the shining star in Indy Car racing. There would be front page stories. The announcers would be doing special promo stories about her. Her name would be familiar to the whole country, if you can say that about an Indy Series driver. This girl is going to be the star Patrick wished she could be. If Patrick is embarrassed now, just wait until DeSilvestro signs with Penske or Gannasi or Newman/Haas-----or NASCAR.
The Greatest Driver....

The greatest race car driver isn’t someone who has the most Championships or has won the most races.

Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson & Tony Stewart are without a doubt front runners for the greatest driver in the past 15 yrs & before them you had Ervin, Waltrip, Wallace & of course Earnhardt.

Who amongst them all has the Crown as the Greatest Racing Driver? Well first I should tell you what I think the greatest driver should be about. whether its finishing first, second or crashing out. The greatest driver is the person who every time they get behind the wheel of a race car they give you the best race to watch.

They give the best lap times, most exciting passes, best racing memories & take charge hard racing. Even if they lose you walk away saying “Wow that driver is the best!”

Now who is it for you if u look at it my way?

Is Jr. gonna be looking for a ride ?
This article only adds to the mystery of what will happen to JR. , in my mind anyhow . I really can't see Kahne not with Hendrick in some way next year , perhaps as one of the many off shoot teams that have came from R.H's stable .

With that said ,and NASCAR's crowd draws dwindling, Does Jr. generate that much cash to keep him in a premium ride ? This really intrigues me, there are alot of (possible) scenarios that could play out . But the once cash cow has to be taking a $$$ intake hit with sub-par finishs in equipment that was supposed to showcase his abilities and make him a championship contender, and he's still at the bottom of the list of talent at Hendricks . With almost every driver/owner change the back marker usually is the man on the chopping block .

What thoughts do the few that still post around here have ?

_______________________________________________________________________

By JENNA FRYER, AP Auto Racing Writer

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Team owner Rick Hendrick won’t force Mark Martin out of his seat next year to make room for Kasey Kahne at Hendrick Motorsports.

Kahne has signed to take over the No. 5 Chevrolet in 2012, and Martin is slated to drive the car through the end of next season. He’s remained adamant that he won’t get out of the car a year early, and Hendrick said before Sunday’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway that he’s planning on Martin driving the No. 5 next season.

“We have a deal with Mark, and we’re going to honor that,” Hendrick said. “We want to honor that. Kasey’s known that. That’s kind of where we are.”

But Hendrick must find a place to stash Kahne next season, and by not announcing a plan yet, the speculation has persisted that Martin won’t be back at Hendrick Motorsports next season.

The intensity picked up this weekend when Ray Evernham, the former championship-winning crew chief for Hendrick and current ESPN analyst, suggested Martin will ultimately step aside for Kahne. Some in the garage suggested that Evernham was doing Hendrick’s “dirty work” by publicly suggesting Martin should bow out.

“I don’t need anybody to do dirty work for me,” Hendrick said. “If I have anything I want done, I’ll go to the people. I won’t have somebody else doing it or speaking for me. Mark has made a heck of contribution to our organization’s path and still is. I wish Mark could drive four, five more years.”
I'm not a Brad fan by any means, I think he's basically Kyle Busch with less whining involved, but he races Carl a little hard and Carl's response is to turn him into the fence in front of oncoming cars. There's plenty he could have done that could be considered hard racing, for example squeeze him to the bottom of the track through the turn, but he chose to do the dumbest thing possible. Typical Carl, and I'm tired of seeing him do stupid crap like this, regardless of who it's done to and why he does it.

Posted this in the cup section because these are supposed to be cup drivers anyway.

That means he is currently 1 for 152. Now I realize that not all of those were in Hendrick's equipment, but a lot of them are, and unless the entire organization is blowing smoke (small s), they have not been skimping on the equipment.

I'm not being hateful, and he has been running better as of late, but I just find it amazing how such a fuss can be made of one NNWS win.
